If you can sit there and tell me (because you're obviously a conservative)that he did a good job, you'll lose any credibility you have, in my opinion.
-Sal Montego, Tupelo, MississipiAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8331495066583132859.post-89949731380454016472009-05-01T07:58:00.000-07:002009-05-01T07:58:00.000-07:00You act like this is your original idea. How is yours different than the ones we starting hearing way back in the '80s with George Schmitz?
-Bill, Santa Ana, Calif.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8331495066583132859.post-64626345910617362472009-04-01T17:49:00.001-07:002009-04-01T17:49:00.001-07:00Sue the Des Moines teacher:You missed my point ent...Sue the Des Moines teacher:
You missed my point entirely, which clearly blames Federal interference for the unacceptable high school dropout rate. If your town was using its own money exclusively, parental outrage would demand any and all methods be adopted to correct this sad state of affairs—union or no—on pain of dismissal. The money required to do my “10% of everything”, which gives cities and counties the lion’s share of revenues, and eliminates the convenient cop-out of “we’re only following Federal rules to get school subsidies”. There would be no Federal rules; Uncle Sam has nothing to offer except money, and if you and I have the money we need, we don’t need Sam in order to teach our kids. Let’s tell Sam to stick to what we hired him for in 1787—protect us against enemies and give us a national back system that works.

I see no problem with your being a “proud Democrat” (even an “old guy” like me voted for Jack Kennedy), but let’s leave Socialist dogma and political correctness to the theoreticians, and keep these failed and failing viewpoints out of the classrooms. If teachers must preach, and I don’t believe they should, then preach the American heritage of individuality from Boston revolt to New Orleans jazz. Yes Sue, we do have what I call “an American culture”, warts and all, that is greater than that of the Chinese, Persians, Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8331495066583132859.post-75875430149139142982009-03-29T14:59:00.000-07:002009-03-29T14:59:00.000-07:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8331495066583132859.post-54004666690108069462009-03-24T15:22:00.000-07:002009-03-24T15:22:00.000-07:00From Sue Morello, Des Moines, Iowa:As a teacher, I...From Sue Morello, Des Moines, Iowa:
As a teacher, I am highly offended by your comments, Mr. Speer. How dare you depict teachers, the ones who mold tomorrow's leaders, as Socialists. Shame on you. I am a Democrat and proud of it, you old fart! We work hard for every cent we earn and we are the backbone of this country. Don't ever forget that.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
